Fsck the creationists!
While the piece by rap sensation MC Hawking from which we borrow the subject title for this news post is entertainment galore, America’s belief in creationism is no laughing matter. In fact, it appears that a significant number of Americans are pro-Creationism in one way or another. What scares me isn’t so much the religious folk who deny evolution, but rather the number of people who want creationism taught in the classroom.
Sixteen percent of Americans want only creationism taught in classes, thirteen percent want it taught alongside evolution as a science, and twenty-nine percent want it taught besides evolution but as a belief. I thought we were for the separation of church and State here, people.
I could care less what’s taught in private schools, as many tend to be religiously-oriented anyway, but a theory built around a religious belief has no place in our public schools. And for the many of you who disagree, where do you draw the line as to which religions get precedence? Why is Christian creationism any more important than Iroquois creationism?
I thought we went to school to get educated in science and facts, not faith.
