Power armour ala Starship Troopers a reality?

by WyldKard on January 16, 2001

Alas, the Starship Troopers movie didn’t include the wrockin’ powered armour from the book, but chances are, you won’t have to read it to see military exoskeletal attachments. In fact, preliminary research is already being done to equip soldiers with mechanical and computerized exoskeletons that will allow them to move faster, lift more equipment, and gain more information on battlefield conditions via wireless networks.

Since we’re talking networks, it’d be interesting to know what kind of countermeasures will be established to prevent hackers from busting into a military unit’s rig. Just imagine the chaos that’d ensue if the opposition effectively killed the exoskeletons and broadcast fake data over the visor-screens? Sci-fi scenarios galore.
