Feminism has reached the virtual world. In an attempt to battle cyber-sexism, a hacker, claiming to be a 17-year-old girl, wrote a web worm that targets Microsoft’s .Net platform. Responding to sexism in the male-dominated anti-virus industry, the hacker, going by “Gigabyte,” wrote and released the “Sharpei” worm in order to prove that women can create viruses. In impeccable 17-year-old girl style, she claimed in an e-mail that she didn’t mean to cause any trouble, but that she created the worm to prove that it could be done, and to annoy Microsoft. Tee hee.
