It’s been 11 years since the release of the first Duke Nukem game. Duke3D took the blonde-haired brute into wondrous 3D with a #include <one -liners.h> at the very top. Many of us “old school†gamers long for the days of 2D platforming and shooting when men were men and 256 colors was ludicrous. Well, if ARUSH Entertainment doesn’t screw up, Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project could be the best thing since games that don’t require you to look on page 38, line 15, word number 5…
The basic gist of the game, kill lots of aliens, isn’t hampered much by the complex plot, stop the slime from destroying the city. That’s right, folks. This ain’t no Oscar winning story. It is, however, a side-scrolling platformer on the PC.
Yes. You read that right… On the PC! PS2 lovers need not apply, all you XBox fanboys can piss off, and you NGC fans, well, have at your Pikmin. This game is going to be patched before it hits the shelves!
Wait… that wasn’t what I meant to say. In all seriousness, this game coming to the PC first is quite a surprise. With the PS2, NGC, and XBox able to pump out the type of graphics they can, having a side-scrolling action game on the PC first is almost insane. I’m not complaining, myself. I just wonder why 3D Realms isn’t. They have put out console exclusive Duke games before.
Here’s a big plea. To anyone from ARUSH who surely isn’t reading this, make the game not suck. Please. For the love of all that is sacred and holy, don’t make this game suck. If you do, however, make this game suck, the blond-haired kid with the assault rifle standing outside your house is a friendly lad. Go and say hello to him. He’ll appreciate it.
