Desktop recovery is possible.

Windows 2000 may not be OS bliss, but it’s damn nice, and Windows XP follows its predecessor’s formula pretty well. I won’t go into a rant about how XP wasn’t really necessary, but instead comment on the stability of 2000/XP. Frankly, they be damned stable, at least in comparison to previous Microsoft Operating Systems. Even still, there comes a time when the Windows curse will descend upon you, and bring your desktop to its knees.

In times like these, I’m glad I have zenwolf to bug, who was kind enough to share some of his knowledge about the Windows Recovery Console. This is one of those features that I imagine few people really know about, but a feature they should know about, unless they’re weird and get off on reformatting their HD and reinstalling the OS.

It was time for more Techno-Ninjitsu, wasn’t it?
