Ruskies hope to take Mars.

I don’t get the Reds one bit. Just half a year ago, they were complaining about not having any money to keep their space program afloat, and even went so far as to go door-to-door asking for donations. Then, they brought down Mir because it was too costly, and yet somehow, they’re managing to start a campaign to put people on Mars.

I’m pro space exploration, mind you, but come on, people. Where did the Ruskies get all this cash to suddenly be able to hold up 30% of this kind of campaign? What’s more, what kind of organizer starts a campaign when all they can do is support less than one third of the project to begin with? Not to nitpick, but that thirty percent leaves seventy percent to NASA and the Europeans, leaving the ex-Soviets with the smallest share in the project.

I smell a sore loser when it comes to the space race, here. It sounds to me like they’re just trying to save face at this point.
