Some undergrad in Africa found, on an expedition, an ancient skull belonging to a new genus and new species. It’s funny, ’cause when I was an undergrad, the only thing I ever found was bottle caps around my apartment.
What makes this find interesting, however, is that the skull has both human and ape-like characteristics. The brain cavity appears to be more ape-like, while the teeth are much more like a human’s. Furthermore, believed to be the skull of a hominid, and being more than 6 million years old, it brings to question our belief on just how long our human ancestors have been living on earth. Potentially, this find suggests that the line diverging chimps and humans occured well before the period that we thought.
What I don’t get is why the rest of the body is missing. You’d think if a half-chimp-half-human fell down and died, and his skull, jawbone, and teeth were all found in the same area, then the rest of its body wouldn’t be far away. Maybe the Creationists are right after all, and God was just too tired to finish the fake evidence for evolution.
