Silenced hard drives.

by WyldKard on November 13, 2002

A couple years ago, I remembered hearing about a device intended for computer standardization, which basically allowed one to insert RAM cartridges into the face of the computer for quick and easy RAM drive creation. The idea seemed fairly cool, but evidently, not much came of it.

Enter Rocket Drives, created by Cenatek, which allow one to create RAM drives without using what’s directly on your motherboard. Instead, one can buy Cenatek’s PCI card, throw some SDRAM into it, and use that as your new hard drive. The idea, of course, is to have a blazing fast drive with true random access.

I don’t think I’d be in the market for one anytime soon, but again, the idea is pretty cool. Feel free to check out a recent review.
