RIAA attacks Navy.
In its crusade to take on music piracy, the RIAA set its sights on a number of academic institutions, including the Annapolis Naval Academy. Computers were confiscated while students were at class, despite the computers being privately owned by the students.
I eagerly await a time when big-name bands begin to release music online, digitally. There have been a couple cases already proving that fans will pay for good music by way of the band directly, though the problem of getting popular to begin with remains. Perhaps when Internet broadcasting begins to reach people not tuning in solely on their desktops, headway in this area can finally been made.
I’d like to think that boycotting the RIAA would help, but then we’d just be increasing the numbers of “lost revenue” the RIAA can claim on behalf of Interet music piracy.
Whatever the answer is, I urge artists to release their content outside RIAA-controlled markets.
