Why am I not surprised?

Social responsibility is lacking these days, plain and simple. From the cries of parents about violent video games to the blame placed on common recreational drugs, it appears that it is indeed possible to stoop lower yet, particularly when this social responsibility is complimented by racous youth.

Take for example the recent death of a Phoenix youth by overdosing on prescription drugs. One might note that ODing is all-too-common, but this case is somewhat different considering the presence of witnesses.

The youth, evidently savvy with computers, bragged about his drug tolerance to IRC buddies, and broadcast his drug-gluttony live with his webcam for his cronies to watch. The frightening thing, however, isn’t just the stupidity of the bragging act, but the lack of action on the part of witnesses.

Have we come no further in civilized culture that our children egg on others when they practice self-destruction? Do we fail to educate children that helping another is an honourable act? Or is common sense simply something fastly fading from this world? I say society is failing on multiple fronts, and we cannot afford to sit still as so many parents have already.
