Europe heads to the moon.
As soon as July, Europe may send a spacecraft to the moon in hopes of collecting data about the moon’s makeup. The mission, a step preceding the Mercury mission planned for the end of the decade, will allow Europe’s space program to field test new space technologies. In addition, the systems probing the moon will give us a better idea if the moon really did form from part of the earth, jettisoned into space after the earth was struck by a spaceborn object long ago.
It seems the US isn’t the only one with space on the mind anymore. With China and Europe looking at this new frontier, I wouldn’t be surprised if NASA ramps up its efforts, even in light of recent disasters.
