There’s been talk for some time now about online retailers, and how selling via the web affects brick ‘n mortar stores. Oddly enough, Games Workshop, developers of the popular Warhammer miniature-based game are demanding their goods no longer be sold online, citing “atmosphere” reasons, in that they prefer their customers experience what it’s like to enter a real store and peruse the wares first-hand.
I can only see this hurting Games Workshop in the long run, considering that wargaming is a niche market and it’s often cheaper and more convenient to just logon and get one’s game pieces online. If this option no longer existed, Games Workshop would have to really push their goods into outlets that don’t currently carry them, else people may think twice about driving a long way to the nearest store that does carry Games Workshop material.
For those of you worrying, don’t fret: there are other games that can take up your time.
