Thus ends the Revolution.

At least the name, that is, since Nintendo has scrapped the “project” codename for their latest console, and adapted something stranger. No longer do we have the Nintendo Revolution (which might have taken the cake as the coolest console name since Dreamcast), instead we have Nintendo Wii, whose pronunciation is not as I expected. To be fair, though, when the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) hit store shelves, I thought the company was called “Nin-ten-doo”, not “Nin-ten-doe”.

As countless sources have reported, the Wii (pronounced “we”) represents all that is good about gaming, and hints at unity among gamers, as though the Wii will bring the hardcore together for some sort of console gaming orgasm.

Or perhaps, Nintendo executives realized that their console was far from revolutionary in the first place, despite the innovation the Wii brings to the table. Really, the Revolution namesake was a bit ironical, given that the console wasn’t touted as being made of the latest and greatest silicon out there, but rather featuring much slower innards yet still having a supporting lineup of great games That’s not a revolution, that’s a flashback.
