That’s just dog-gone disturbing.
Sometimes people are just plain low, and then they get lower. This weekend, in San Francisco, an 8-year-old boy was taken to the hospital to undergo chemotherapy. The parents left his best friend, a dog inappropriately named Chemo, in the car while they ran the boy inside. During that time, someone broke into the car and stole the 15-week-old puppy. The paper publicized the theft and as of noon today, the puppy was returned unharmed.
I am disturbed by this article for many reasons. To sound politically correct, I’ll start with the obvious. What kind of low life steals a cancer-boy’s puppy? Granted, the thief probably didn’t know the particulars of the vehicle’s owners, but still… stealing a puppy? He may as well have bitch-slapped a baby for its lollipop.
The next thing that bothers me is the fact that the parents brought the puppy to the hospital, then proceeded to leave it in the car. Don’t they know how many pets a year die in cars, even with the window cracked? Okay, I don’t know the number either, but I know it’s a lot. Or relatively a lot. The point is, you’re not supposed to leave pets in cars. They should have left the puppy at home where it was safe and could pee all over the house.
The thing that may bother me the most, however, is the puppy itself. You see, I haven’t told you what kind of puppy it is. It’s a Doberman-Chihuahua mix. o_0 Yes, the puppy looks cute as hell, but I can’t help but think of how it was created. As my friend put it, it’s either brutally messy or really pathetic, depending on how it was conceived. Either way, it’s just plain wrong. What’s even probably more disturbing is to know that this animal was not a freak occurrence. When news of the theft of was publicized, a person came forward to offer the boy a puppy of similar appearance. Is there some nutjob out there who is breeding these things? What kind of sicko does that? It reminds me of Stan and Kyle trying to get the elephant to breed with Cartman’s pot-bellied pig to make pot-bellied elephants. (which, granted, would be damn cute)
This just goes to prove that, yes, we can steal from one another, irresponsibly leave pets in cars, and breed a tiny dog with a notoriously aggressive large dog, but I think we can agree that just because we can, doesn’t mean we should.
