Or so it would seem, at least based on the growth and programming of satellite radio. While both XM and Sirius offer a paltry set of “international” stations, they really just cater to the growing mass of Spanish-speaking folks in the United States. There’s even a Korean station on Sirius, but apparently nothing for those interested in, say, the important languages from the Old World.
One would think it would be very simple to sign on some European talent for satellite radio, so we could listen to true international stations and get a taste of music on the other side of the Atlantic. That is where a lot of music influence comes from, after all. Granted, most Americans wouldn’t be able to understand much of anything if it’s not spoken in English, but the opposite hasn’t kept Europeans from listening in to our musical stylings.
So, let’s hear some of that legendary French rap, German reggae, and the ever-popular music from le Discoteque. That shit on Coffeehouse can only entertain me for so long.
