In the United States, copyright infringement is like sleeping with another man’s wife. Lawsuit after lawsuit, and proverbial beat-down after beat-down, even the Feds are using resources that ought be used protecting our national security on keeping profits up for companies who are in no way hurting. Lest I slip into a diatribe on the subject, however, I bring you thanks from Romania, who claims that the rampant piracy in its country brought about a technological revolution responsible for pumping up the country’s industry.
In related news, piracy in Russia is prompting legal action as well, and though word is that Microsoft may not be the only one behind the push to crack down on piracy of its products, some Russian schools are migrating to Linux, a migration which can be seen in many other countries in a variety of government programs. This may mean little to the current generation, but it means that the next generation of users in these countries will grow up as h4x0r5, likely possessing a level of computer saviness that outclasses that of our own children.
