iPhone to hit 3G earlier than expected?

As cool as the iPhone seems to be, there’s enough criticism to make one second-guess an impulse buy. While we’re only a handful of months away from the iPhone hitting Cingular stores, there’s still a lot about the phone that we don’t know, though hints are trickling in from a variety of sources. There’s even word that a 3G version will hit Europe in early 2008, which makes one wonder how quickly a revision will hit U.S. shores.

I still question the ability of the iPhone to handle text input, based on the available information at hand. At the moment, I’m not convinced that text input can be all that quick and accurate, akin with any other “virtual” keyboard. This may not be a big deal for basic use, but for those who are big into texting, the iPhone may not fit the bill.

In the end, the lack of EDGE, GPS, and ability to use one’s music library as ringtones, as well as the requirement of Cingular service, are still turning me off from what could otherwise be a solid device.
