While I briefly mentioned it before, it warrants revisitation that the Death Knight, at present, is slated to be available to all races in World of Warcraft (WoW). From a developer’s perspective, it makes some sense (albeit still limited sense) to keep the Death Knight open to race if the class is to be unlocked by any character, such that the unlocking character becomes the Death Knight. In this manner, one can work in the storyline of the character falling from grace and becoming empowered with dark energies, but as we know from Blizzard’s Hero Class Blunder (BHCB), existing characters won’t be converting into Death Knights.
So, then, why not restrict the Death Knight class to races that make sense? If a Horde character unlocks the Death Knight Class, then allow the respective player to roll an Undead or Blood Elf Death Knight. If it’s an Alliance character doing the unlocking, then allow a Human or Dwarf Death Knight. Seriously, isn’t it preposterous for us to see a Tauren Death Knight roaming around? The image may be cool, but it’s so contrary to Tauren philosophy, we may as well just open all classes to all races if Death Knights aren’t locked to specific classes.
I’m hoping that BHCB means that Blizzard revealed plans to integrate a Death Knight class prematurely, before the class was truly developed and fleshed out. Otherwise, it pains me every time I think about the silly class.
