I intended on posting a shoutout to my Twitter status about achieving Artisan-level fishing in World of Warcraft (WoW) for the first time, but the issue deserves some thought-puke in its own front-page post. I say this because the Artisan-level fishing quest is a reasonable pain in the ass, particularly considering the length of time it takes just to level fishing in the first place. That’s not to say that the quest was difficult, because it was not by any means, but it does involve a fair amount of travel, which has not been the case for other profession quests I’ve reached artisan levels in. All in all, unlike second-tier professions like cooking or first aid, and even unlike first-tier crafting professions, there’s a certain degree of pride one can display when walking around with a 225+ cooking skill. It may not be awe-inspiring, but it shows a degree of commitment that other crafts do not.
In short, Blizzard’s implementation of fishing may not be the best, but they did something right in giving players a sense of accomplishment when beating the artisan-level quest, even if all it means is that players who’ve done so can now spend another 150 fishing levels bored out of their minds.
