I am a self-proclaimed genius!

Recently, my Powerbook G4 laptop died. I thought that I was going to be hosed. Last year the hard drive died in my laptop (only two years old at the time), and I was severely distressed. After a huge drama, I finally ended up with a new hard drive, but all of my data was lost. Of course, I hadn’t made a back up, so I had start over. This time when my laptop died, I thought it was going to be the hard drive again. I happened to have a hard drive lying around from last year’s drama, so I consulted an online guide and managed to switch out the hard drive on my own… only to find out that it wasn’t the problem.

I consulted several people and my friend suggested that I just switch out the logic board. He said he thought it was my video card, and since that’s part of the logic board, the assumption was that it would fix everything. Of course switching out the logic board fixes a myriad of problems. I have never messed with my computer before and despite my daily exposure to cyber stuff, I had little to no confidence in my abilities to fix my computer by myself. I can’t say that anyone else had any confidence in me either. I’m the kind of person who can’t fix a broken nail let alone a broken piece of technology. Nevertheless, not wanting to shell out $2k for the new one I wanted and can’t afford, I decided to try to fix mine rather than just commit it to the landfill.

I went on to eBay and bid on a logic board since I couldn’t see paying $500 for a new one. I won my auction for a nice little $50. Once again, I searched for an online guide to help me out (thanks to a back up computer). I found a nice step-by-step guide on how to switch out a logic board. Several hours and some cussing later, I successfully installed a new logic board. (We’ll just forget about the two leftover screws I ended up with. How important can they possibly be?) Let me repeat that… I SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED A NEW LOGIC BOARD!!!! In fact, I’m currently writing this on my now super-functional laptop. YAY!!! I’m so proud of myself for actually doing something computery that I am today proclaiming myself a GENIUS!!! You may now shower me with praise.
