Which rocks are you mining smoking?
David Bowers at WoW Insider claims that “The amount of mining you do in the normal course of leveling just isn’t enough to keep up with your experience gain.” How Bowers came to this conclusion is beyond me, considering that I’ve done no ore farming on my Hunter, and expect to reach level 70 well after maxing out my mining skill. My previous character, a Paladin, was on a similar role, and even switched crafting professions from Jewelcrafting to Blacksmithing late in her leveling with minimal gold expenditures to “catch up”. In fact, even pre-Burning Crusade (BC), all my miners were doing fine, and were not having difficulty keeping their mining skill consistent with their leveling pace.
I can understand how the BC rush may have exhausted mining nodes because of the sheer number of people leveling in Outland, but this phenomenon, if it occurred, is well past. The only thing increasing mining nodes is going to do is decrease the value of ore, which raises a number of other issues that I’m not sure we need to tackle with. Mining was never meant to be as easy as skinning, and while herbalism is still easier to level up, mining is hardly as difficult to level as Bowers claims.
